Jenny Triplett Reveals why President Obama has Worldwide Appeal

If anyone has had the pleasure of cruising, you are well aware that you are surrounded by people of various countries and nationalities. Cruise ships are one of the most diverse places sailing the free seas. Everyone loves a great vacation and seeing the world with all races and walks of life is just an added bonus.

My husband, Rufus Triplett, and I just returned from a Royal Caribbean cruise to two ports in the Bahamas flanked by citizens of 41 other countries. A hot topic of conversation was not Beyoncé or Lady Gaga, but that wonderful rock star leader of this country, President Barack Obama.

You would think that religion and politics would be tucked away behind the midnight buffet but it was alive and well on this vessel and on the islands. The Bahamian people are in total support of President Obama and keep a close eye on what is going on in the States. Besides for loving America music they also love the current American leader. There are several that accosted us in Nassau, I guess we just looked American, that wished us well on the election and hoped that President Obama survived another four years.

We encountered what seemed like the United Nations of countries which included the Philippines, India, China, Turkey, Japan, Guam, France, West Indies and several states in the US, while experiencing just about all of the amenities on the ship. What was most surprising is that everyone that was vocal about politics that resided in Ohio, and were Republicans, said they were voting for President Obama. Maybe it’s just me but if you actually talk to the people, real people, you would know that the polls are wrong.

During that last night of the ship we were greeted by the culinary staff which included chefs from six countries. The most telling statement of the head chef was that if his staff could get along while cooking 62,000 tons of food in 91 degree heat, then it should not be hard for the world to do the same. His statement garnered applause but one overly excited individual decided to chant “four more years.” We do not know who or what country, but it was heard by all.

One of the most popular questions during any presidential election is “are you better off than you were four years ago?” Personally I would have to say yes. President Obama has done great things that he doesn’t even get credited most probably due to the color of his skin. Thank goodness for global recognition. Skin color does not matter. Race is not a factor.  It’s the man with the plan that the world is hoping will sail again.
