50 Cent AKA Curtis Jackson was busted for selling crack and ended up doing time in the 90′s. Instead of going to a state or federal prison, he was sentenced to boot camp to shape up. After renamed himself 50 Cent, “a metaphor for change” he pursued the rap game and got a deal with Columbia Records in 1999. In 2000 he was famously shot nine times in front of his grandmother’s house, and Columbia quietly canceled his contract while he was recovering. Big mistake.
50 went on to make and sell more records and become one of the biggest names in the rap industry. His empire includes movies, TV and his multimillion dollar deal to Coca-Cola for his vitamin water.
